Photograph 51
Photograph 51

by Anna Ziegler
Directed by Sue Higginson

8th to 15th February 2020

This brilliantly witty, fast-paced, and ultimately moving play, received standing ovations when it came to London’s West End in 2015. Nicole Kidman in the central role went on to win the Evening Standard Best Actress Award.

It tells the inside story of one of the greatest scientific discoveries of the 20th Century: the structure of DNA.

James Watson and Francis Crick have featured prominently in the textbooks on this subject, alongside fellow Nobel Prize winner, Maurice Wilkins. But until quite recently a brilliant female scientist, Rosalind Franklin, has remained invisible, unrecognised for her contribution. Why?

We are very privileged to bring this important and amazing story to the GWT stage.

“The instant I saw the photograph my mouth fell open and my pulse began to race.”
